A School Bus Attendant will address the safety, care, and comfort of special education students and other students on all school buses. Assists students in boarding and disembarking from school buses. Lifts and carries students as required. (In emergencies cases only) Monitors student behavior on buses. Completes daily attendance of students riding the bus.
Essential Functions:
Assists students in boarding and disembarking from all school buses. Lifts students when necessary. (In emergencies cases only)
Ø Assign students to seats.
Ø Adjusts safety straps and stores crutches and other orthopedic aids on the bus. Properly secures students in various types of equipment.
Ø Monitors students on the bus for behavioral and physical problems.
Ø Follows prescribed procedures when a parent or an adult fails to meet a student at the bus stop. (Driver’s discretion)
Ø Assists the bus driver in developing emergency evacuation plans and performing bus evacuation drills.
Ø Assist the bus driver with navigating the route if needed.
Ø Assisted in emergencies and efficiently and quickly evacuated students from the bus as needed.
Ø Assists the bus driver in receiving the information needed to complete accident reports, keep the bus clean, and sanitize before and after students get on and off the bus.
Ø High school diploma or GED.
Ø Experience working with special education students is preferred but not necessary.
Ø Knowledge of school safety, procedural and policy guidelines, and applicable regulations.
Ø Must have good communication skills and display professionalism.
Ø Ability to use and care for the school bus and related equipment and supplies according to written and oral instructions.
Ø Maintaining good relationships with administrators, teachers, students, employees, and the general public.
Ø Establishing and maintaining working relationships with other departmental officials, associates, and employees.
Ø Must have complex critical thinking skills.

Ø It must provide a clean background.
Ø Must complete Howard County or Anne Arundel County certification class in three to four days. (Upon job offer)
